I was once a “northener”, now a “north-easterner”. With the news of Penang’s Hotel Equatorial closing down, it brought me to this roast meat stall at Woodlands. Yes, woodlands! Eh don’t be too surprised there are good food up in the north too!

This is really at a very very residential kopitiam. You won’t even pass by unless you are a resident or studies/work at Republic Polytechnic. The curry noodles looks interesting, ok order… The man wanna eat wanton noodles. I also “zham liu” aka “chop some meats” for dinner cos the roast looks good.

So apparently the guy who was serving me at the stall was the boss, very friendly and definitely Malaysian. So he explained to me his version of the Penang’s curry noodles. Kinda interesting, its done using the wanton mee noodles… Mmm…

We tried both noodles, the noodles were q and springy, i always liked this kind of thinner al-dente noodles. However, the sauces were a tad sweet which the boss did explain thats how the authentic Penang taste should be which we being Singaporeans always prefer it spicy!!!

Now whats delightful are the roast!!! Their char siew is what I love best!!! Great percentage of thin and fat, good char and nice flavours! I couldn’t get enough of the char siew. Their roast pork is good too!!! Crunchy and just nice amount of spice and salt. Their roast duck is lean, so not so fat as you can see from the picture. I usually prefer them to be abit fatter… 🤣🤣🤣 But overall, the roast are good!

If I am around there I will be back for their roast for sure! So I think there is a few branches, the one I went to is at Woodlands.
