If you are around Bugis area or if you are familiar with “Hainan” culture, you will know our “Nanyang” kopi culture originated from the Hainanese. You can read more about our kopi and Hainanese culture at https://mothership.sg/2019/07/hainanese-singapore-culture/

Right at the start of Purvis Street, aka “Hainan 2nd Street” is YY Kafei Dian Singapore. I have visited this place umpteen times ever since a Hainanese friend intro me to it. I will always go there for their crispy on the outside but soft fluffy on the inside toasted buns. Their Kaya is the old school caramel (brown) kind, not too sweet with a slab of butter. They baked their soft buns in-house. Their kopi… Ooo, me love and fyi, i am a tea lover who is very picky with kopi lol! My man who is a big kopi lover loves their kopi too! Gao gao and very fragrant… They do sell the set with soft boil (sous vide) eggs too! A set with eggs will cost around $4+.
The stall do sell many others authentic fare such as chicken rice, pork chop, zi char and some kuehs and bakes… Have yet to try those there. Just couldn’t resist the buns and kopi!!!

The kopitiam is quite crowded during the usual peak hours and can expect to wait for seats and queue for food. But if you are there during odd tea break hours which I usually go at, there are empty seats available.
