What’s good for lunch on a rainy saturday… Hot soupy noodles! Needed to go Hougang to make key so thought explore the kopitiam(s) there. While driving past saw this striking white and blue signboard with a short queue so thought ok, give it a try.
Though the signboard states “Ah Ma Chi Mian 阿嬤吃麵” but there was no “Ah Ma” in sight. Instead, there were 3 young men, probably the grandsons? Lol… The stall seems to boast Teochew Handmade Fishballs. I m a fishball fan!!! My man ordered Lor Mee while I had the Signature Scallop Dried Noodles Set.
Lor Mee $4 – at 1st glance, looks good… The key criteria for Lor Mee is the sauce – cannot be too starchy and not enough “Lor” taste. The rest are just secondary. Indeed the sauce taste good enough and not super starchy. The ingredients were tasty. The “Lor Bak” was tasty too! Will have it again. Its really tough to get good Lor Mee these days. Very generous portion.
Signature Scallop Dried Noodle Set $6 – mmm… The set did not come with fishballs, only 1 of their signature meatball. I really wanted to try their fishballs so I decided to add on 4 fishballs (2 for $1.30 – thats pretty expensive for fishballs!!! Let’s hope its good). The soup definitely looks good, even the liver… 
The kind of soup I like with the minced meat goodness all in the soup!!! The meepok was cooked al-dente, good… But the seasoning for the noodles and the scallop can do better, kinda bland. The crispy fried ikan billis add a good texture. Super thumbs up for the soup, liver, pork… Very very good texture and flavour! I will go back just to have their liver noodles! The fishball and meatball are ok. Not too bad but not superb. Fishball is considered better than most but not the best I had. Will have their fishballs again.
