1st time many years ago when a friend brought me there for this “indian zhap chye peng”, I was hooked. I never really took note of the restaurant name, I just know its on Chander Road until one day, I realised it was named Ghandi Restaurant. This is definitely 1 of the yummiest south indian food I heart!
They have 2 shop units – 1 where the cashier and food counter/display is (non-airconditioned). The other is the dine-in seating area (air conditioned). Once you are there and wanting to dine-in, simply walk in and find yourself a seat. If no seats, just have to let the service staff know and wait. If wanna takeaway simply join the queue or go to the food counter to order. I have never once ordered takeaway cos eating there is such an experience on its own.

Once seated, the service staff will come over, plonk down the big pc of banana leaf and bring you your utensils including some plain water and cups. Then the service staff will come along next with the big pot of nicely cooked white rice – free flow. So if you are a “peng tang” aka “饭桶”, you sure can eat to your fill!!! Then, somehow you will get the basic vegs and bean paste passed to you and you can scoop them to your fill. I wish I can tell you what’s what but… 🤣😬 After a few times there, I am familiar with what I like and what I don’t.

Then come the star… The curries and meat and seafood!!! The service staff will have a tray of portions of they day’s selection of curries, meat and seafood. You then pick what you want. Feel free to ask them whats what. I love their chicken and mutton curry and not always, they may have this fish scrambled egg dish thats v v v v yummy. I couldn’t even figure out its fish until I ordered my 3rd portion and asked… I only know its that yummy. Seafood curry such as their prawns and sotongs are not too bad… The meat the best!
Papadum is also free-flow. 😍😍😍 I can never get enough of these fried goodies! Their lassi (yoghurt drink) are also good!!! They charge by per portion of food. Like every small bowl of food = a price. I have never asked how much it is… 😬😬😬 On the average, everytime I am there its about $12-$17 a pax depending on what we eat but regardless if its 2 pax or with a group of friends its about there. Go with more people so you can eat more variety!
