So many mookata around and apart from the ones in the west, I have pretty much tried almost everywhere and “New Udon Mookata” https://www.facebook.com/New-Udon-Mookata-100400371696269/ legit has the BEST chicken thigh meat for mookata!!! They are definitely not the cheapest but their marination is by far the best and I guess that’s what kept their fans coming back over and over again!
I have been a loyal fan for years and I mean at least for 8 years. They used to be $38 per set then once after CNY up to $45 and it has stayed that way since. But what is it about this mookata that keeps the fans including me coming back to them despite the many varieties, cheaper options, buffet style, seafood abundance…
1) Yummy marination – all their meats are marinated with sesame, butter and their “signature” condiments. To date, I am still trying to figure out what components are in the marination.
2) The BEST chicken thigh meat – very very tender and juicy and so so so so flavourful and all that in a pc of chicken meat!!! At times, we order extra ala-carte set of chicken meat (small one $10 per set… Medium $15 and large $20).
3) Fresh ingredients – guaranteed you won’t get limpy prawns or dry out meat… Even their vegetables and mushrooms are fresh! Thats whats worth for the price. Me and my man love love love their pig liver too!!! Very very fresh and sliced to thickness perfection. We usually order extra small ala-carte set too!
4) Love their chilli options – the standard ones is a sweet chilli with sesame seeds but you can always request for the spicy chilli (I happen to find that out when I ordered their raw prawns which I am a big fan of…).
5) Customer service is fast even though they are really crowded on weekends. A few of their long-time staff are really friendly and will say hi or smile to acknowledge regular customers.
For me personally, I would put chilli padi and garlic into their soup for that extra flavourful punch. And then as the fresh ingredients sit on a big plate of thinly sliced cabbage, throw these on top of your meat and cook them. They are so yummy after soaking up the meat juices while cooking too!!! 1 set is good for 2-3pax.
They now have options for really super big cups of thai milk tea, etc. They also sell some cooked food and ala-carte options if you like to add on. And best, they are open 24/7!!!! Woohoo!!!
