Happy Chinese New Year, everyone! Took a blogging break cos was busy over the CNY period. 新的一年,新的吃吃吃!
A new kway chap SHOP just open right below my office, yes, you heard it right, a kway chap SHOP! I have not come across a shop that sells kway chap only. Most are stalls. So I have been anticipating their opening and they officially opened on 03 Feb 2021.
Chiak Kway Chap looks nice, modern, clean and airy. Very welcoming seatings. A tad too modern for kway chap? Would prefer them to be in abit more nostalgia/heritage decor. The menu, though, is decked out in bright red, a contrast from their shop settings, whetting up your appetite already!
They have sets for 1-4pax but however, the sets do not include the kway… Kinda weird. The kway cost 60¢ per bowl. We ordered the 2pax set $10 and 3 bowls of kway cos the man always need 2.

Kway was nice and smooth. The chap was good – no porky smell / taste. A tad salty, will prefer it with stronger “spices” taste like in the teochew “lor”. But overall, its a pleasant eat. I especially love their big intestines “大肠”… Very nicely done. I don’t particularly love them cos most of time very chewy or smelly. But this is soft and nice. I love their pork belly “三层肉” – melts in your mouth and salted veg – a tad sour and salted and cooked to perfection (don’t like it when they are too soft).
Their star dish should be the fried intestines “炸大肠” but as mentioned I wasn’t a “大肠” fan so I did not order that. But now that they have passed the taste test for their “卤大肠”, I would like to try their fried ones! Will be back soon, for sure!
