I used to be a great fan of Dong Po Colonial Cafe kopi-roti for breakfast but ever since they close last March, I have not found a good place for my kopi roti fix. Nope, not Ya Kun, not Toast Box, not Nanyang, not my downstair or nearby kopitiams… Sigh… Until I discovered…

Everytime I pass by 壹家 面包屋 YI JIA Bakery House Cafe, I will always wonder – there are always people queueing up to buy bread and people waiting for seats at the 3 tables seating bakery, they sell cheng tng and the coffee smells good. So I told my man, lets give this bakery a try. He don’t like bread but he loves coffee and since I said it, so he agreed.

First time and then almost once a week thereafter… Their coffee is robust and nice. Their kopi-roti set is only $3.20 and I would have thought they sous-vide their eggs but no, still the good old way in the egg dripper but done perfectly. Eggs were big and fresh and their roti… Nicely done, crispy toasted on the outside, soft fluffy on the inside with generous kaya butter. For $3.20 a set definitely worth it!!!

Their bread, I fell in love… Most have really generous fillings and unlike some neighbourhood bakery, their bread doesn’t stick to your teeth. Most are priced around $1.50-$1.80… My personal favourites – Taiwan Sausage Bun, Bak Kwa Bun, Otah Bun, Sardines Bun, Chicken Curry Bun, Pizza Baguette… I tried their Hae Bee Hiam Bun (I would love to like it BUT the fillings are way too much for my liking)!!! Lol…
