Lao Huang Hakka Niang Tou Fu is a little surprising find… Was at ICA getting some stuff done so thought pop over for an early lunch. We spotted the only queue at North Bridge Road Market & Food Centre while wondering what to eat. Since the man like noodles and i like YTF and the queue isn’t insanely long so why not.
The few customers in front of me seemed to be regulars. Friendly greetings were exchanged and they seem to ask for their favourites which were mostly sold out and yes its only 11.30am on a Saturday. By the time it got to me, not much varieties were left. The young lady at the stall asked if I was ok with whatever was left… Mmm i think its enough so I ordered! While ordering spotted the boss hand-making the YTF. So its family-run. Dad makes the YTF, mum cooks, daugther takes order and cashiering.
About 15mins or so later, our buzzer rang. The YTF were quite different from the usual. And they were mostly stuffed with marinated mince pork. I like that its tad saltier to bring out the fuller taste. I also liked that they do have certain YTF that are meant to be deep fried, came deep fried!!! 😍😍😍
The noodles were springy and sambal chilli was great. The minced meat could be more flavourful or saucy. But overall, quite a delight. And the YTF is the highlight with the light clear soup. I particularly loved the taupok stuffed with the mince meat. Its not very expensive either… So as shown the 2 bowls in the picture sets us back around $8+.
Do be early cos seems like the better YTF are sold out fast! I keep wondering about the sold out YTF… So will definitely be back again, early this time!
