We are all very familiar with the China-style of grilled fish – tonnes in Chinatown. Tucked right at the edge of Punggol is “牛车水家乡小厨”. Apparently its main branch is in Chinatown but there are quite a few with the same name so I shall not speculate which is its main branch and I did not ask as well.

The whole fish stew aka “烤鱼” is enough to feed 3pax, at least but I love it so my man and I always eat till too full! Quite a few flavours to choose from. We have so far tried the pickled mustard “酸菜” and mala “麻辣”. Both of us agreed that the “酸菜” one is nicer. Very appetising and palatable. The mala one, even though, we asked for less oil, still too oily and too much condiments that we don’t love biting into.

$22 worth with a whole carp and lots of side ingredients such as bigger bean sprouts, beancurd skin, golden mushrooms, picked mustard, cabbage… The carp although we know is a cheaper fish but its fresh and fried pretty well and then soak in the flavourful stock!!! Yummy with a bowl of rice. To top it off cos the stall serves mala xiang guo “麻辣香锅” so you can simply add on whatever you fancy from the counter. We usually add on alot of fried beancurd skin and golden mushroom, just another $2-$3 worth! 😍😍😍
